Thoughts on American Imperialism in Venezuela
A few thoughts on the recent action of the US Government in Venezuela.
-
We entered a new phase of American imperialism on 03 January 2026.
-
This was a gross overstep of international law and international norms.
- We have some really f’d up ideas on what the US can and cannot do.
- Flip this script. How does this look in any other scenario? Are we ok with the US kidnapping the president of Canada? Are we ok with China kidnapping the president of the US?
-
WTF is with the bogus legal “charges”??
- Why does this need to be in the NYC District Court?
-
We will be force fed images and videos of Venezuelans (at home and abroad) celebrating, and this will be used by normal people to justify all of this
- The worst part is, the US Government hasn’t even used loaded idealistic terms like “spreading democracy” or “liberating a nation”.
-
The US Government has said they will exploit oil.
-
This will not benefit any common Venezuelan or any common US citizen.
-
The US Government has opened a can of worms, and has shown that it won’t stop.
- When Nazi Germany did this, the only thing that stopped them was a global war. Is this our Austria moment? When will be out Poland moment?
- Who’s next? Mexico? Cuba? Greenland? Canada?
- Is the justification that is need for US to have unbridled world power just to say “That’s a bad dude.” or “The people are celebrating”?
-
The international outcry has been week. What is happening? Why is everyone not condemning this?
- This will build. Who will condemn these same actions when the US invades Cuba?
- Is the world so fearful of Trump that they are afraid to open their mouths?
-
If you can justify this, you can justify Russia’s actions with Ukraine. There is no difference, except the amount of military equipment used.
- I’m reminded of maga’s hard pivot to demonizing Ukraine and taking Russia’s side
-
As a veteran of OEF in Afghanistan…when has this ever worked?
-
Where is congress? The president has ability to do whatever they want with the military? Is that where we are now?
- There is no significant resistance, domestically or internationally.
