Lighter is Freeing

throughout the years, i’ve realized i’m more content with less possessions.

years of travel has been a blessing.

and being in the position to see and live in many places has been a blessing.

each move is an assessment of how much SHIT I collect and acquire. and each move is revealing in what is important and what is actually needed.

some of the most liberating feelings i’ve encountered have been when living out of a backpack. i often find myself a bit giddy (sp?) when packing for a trip. i have my 25 liter backpack which challenges me to pack only the essentials, and cut out all the fluff.

however, Of course I remember moments living that nomadic lifestyle dreaming of how nice it will feel to settle in a little bit. with planting some roots comes hobbie, and hobbies are important. traveling is a hobby, sure, but traveling also becomes your only hobby when actually traveling for a long period of time.

and there lies the paradox… after traveling and moving to a new city with nothing but a duffelbag and a backpack, we start again. start accumulating “stuff”…but hobbies often demaind having “stuff” sometimes. settling a bit often means obtaining “stuff”. it sucks, but when you better your living situation, you need “stuff”!

i guess the it’s a modern lifelong learning type of thing, finding that special balance, as it is with most things in life.
